Intellijel is on a sudden tear, taking some of their most beloved modules and adding some wonderful bells and whistles. Tangrams is no exception – it’s a Roland System 100m-style dual envelope, as before, but now with two VCAs and more.
So, you start with the dual analog envelope, which is what Intellijel’s aptly-named “Dual ADSR” was. This has the same friendly design popularized by Roland on their System 100m and, for desktop audiences, on the SH-101. That’s already darned useful.
But they’ve done more here, adding a Pulser for linking the two envelopes in creative ways, and adding VCAs for each envelope.
The Pulser. This apparently comes from the “trapezoidal function generators like the one on the EMS Synthi.” Or, to put it in lay musical terms – you can cycle through envelopes, delay one-shots, etc. The second envelope can be triggered by a delay after the first – and you can loop them. I’m actually surprised more software doesn’t have this kind of envelope function; maybe this will inspire those devs. But in modular form, it’s invaluable. And this module remains eminently patchable across both envelopes, too.
VCA. Oh yeah, and now you have VCAs. You can use that to control the output level, and you can use it to process input signals to free up other VCAs.
And they’ve added a ton of other features. This was my sense of their excellent Flurry noise module, which I’m writing up this month after playing it live last month. It’s great to see the added depth across their range.

ADSR + VCA Features
- Dual Analog ADSR envelopes with digital gate Pulser for trapezoid shapes
- Pulser stages P1 and P2 can be selectively routed to trigger each ADSR via panel switches
- Three timing ranges: (FAST: ~5 seconds, MED: ~35sec, SLOW: ~1min A/D times)
- Retrig input (allows re-triggering of the envelope if source gate held high)
- VCA input can be used to dynamically control the respective ADSR output level (bipolar) or to process signals to be modulated in amplitude by the ADSR.
- Manual GATE buttons for each envelope
Pulser Features
- A pulse is made of individually controllable T1 and T2 stage lengths
- CV control over T1 and T2 time
- Pulser can be one-shot (SINGLE) or repeating (CYCLE)
- PULSE output has a switch to select P1 or P2 as the source.
- Pulser stages P1 and P2 can be selectively routed to trigger each ADSR via panel switches
- START trigger input for starting/restarting the Pulser sequence
- Manual GATE button to trigger the Pulser sequence
US$239.
