Splice Names Kakul Srivastava as New CEO – Billboard

Kakul Srivastava is the new CEO at Splice, the music creation platform helping creators make music from home, the company announced on Tuesday. Joining from Adobe, where she was most recently vp of its Creative Cloud business, Srivastava takes over the CEO role at Splice from co-founder Steve Martocci, who is transitioning to executive chairman and chief strategy officer.

“Kakul is a leader for the future,’” Martocci said. “She’s dynamic, operational and empathetic and deeply understands building products for creators. Kakul’s leadership will be the key to Splice accelerating growth, expanding its footprint and becoming an iconic company.”

Since founding Splice with Matt Aimonetti in 2013, Splice has grown to over 200 employees and more than 4 million users — producers, musicians and other creators — accessing its trove of over 2 million pre-cleared song samples. The company recently unveiled CoSo By Splice, which it describes as an “intelligent musical sketch pad designed to empower music makers in sound discovery.”

Srivastava resume reads like a tech-biz greatest hits, having spent the bulk of the oughts at Yahoo as GM of photo sharing and storage giant Flickr and later working on strategic development for the also-massive Yahoo Mail product. She later founded and was CEO at app-making startup Tomfoolery, which was sold to Yahoo in 2014, and went on to high level positions at WeWork and GitHub before landing at Adobe.

She has been a board member at Splice since February 2021.

“In a world where everyone is a creator, Splice is building the essential tool set to make music,” Srivastava said. “Human creativity is our most important resource and I’m excited to build on the remarkable foundation laid by Steve and the world-class Splice team, to empower music creators globally.”
