Ellie Goulding Not Injured After Firework Incident at UK Festival – Rolling Stone

The current state of live performances is starting to make more and more of a case for artists to just perform in those giant blow-up hamster balls. Concert audiences have recently been getting out of hand in regards to their affinity for pelting artists with items from their place in the crowd — but technical mishaps can be just as dangerous. And just last weekend, Ellie Goulding appeared to be struck in the face by a pyrotechnic during her performance of “Miracle” at the Victorious Festival in Portsmouth, England.

On Wednesday, Goulding shared an update on the incident, clarifying that it looked worse than it truly was. “To those asking I am ok!” Goulding wrote in an Instagram Story post. “Pyro didn’t hit me in the face. Face is intact. Love you thank you.” The singer punctuated the post with a firework emoji.

In the video of the moment, shared on TikTok by a fan, Goulding appeared to have been standing too close to the firing equipment when the blast shot out. Moving away, she seems to exclaim, “Fuck!” before moving on with the performance.

Goulding has another festival appearance scheduled in Germany at Superbloom Festival in September. After that, the singer will perform a number of headlining shows throughout Europe in October.

“I am trying to make my tour carbon-neutral, and you know how hard that is? It’s pretty hard. And really, it’s encouraging venues to make that possible for us because they can’t always equip us with that,” she told Rolling Stone earlier this year. “The last tour I did was literally a quick two-week tour of the UK and we did manage to achieve it and it was plastic-free, and powered by renewables. And if I could get to a place where I don’t have to fly… I detest flying.”
