Grimes auctioning off Met Gala accessories to raise funds for Ukraine refugees – Music News

Grimes is auctioning off two 2021 Met Gala pieces to benefit Ukrainian refugees.

The art-pop musician announced on her Instagram on Monday that her Dune-inspired metal face mask and matching elf ears would be sold at an auction on Artsy.

Grimes, real name Claire Boucher, wore the look to last year’s Met Gala, pairing the silver accessories with an Iris van Herpen silk gown and medieval-style sword.

Bidding for the items, valued at approximately $2,700 (£2,160) altogether, closes on 26 May.

The Chris Habana-designed face covering is estimated to be worth $1,200 (£960), while the ear cuffs by Sofia Pavlova are worth approximately $1,500 (£1,200).

Grimes’ Met Gala memorabilia were featured in an exhibit at the HVW8 Art + Design Gallery in Los Angeles, which credits the pieces with embodying “resistance” as her sword was made from a melted-down AR-15 assault rifle.

All proceeds from the auction will go to Diaspora Relief and Razom – with funds providing emergency response, food, shelter and evacuation support in Ukraine and at the Polish border following the invasion of Russian forces earlier this year.

Both organisations focus on supporting Black, Indigenous, (and) People of Color (BIPOC) families.
