Jennifer Lopez suffered from ‘low self-esteem’ after Oscars snub – Music News

Jennifer Lopez battled poor self-esteem after she missed out on an Oscar nomination for Hustlers.

The singer/actress garnered acclaim for her performance as Ramona Vega, a veteran stripper, in Lorene Scafaria’s 2019 movie.

After landing Golden Globe and Screen Actors Guild Awards nominations, Jennifer was expected to be in the running for an Academy Award, but missed out on any recognition.

In a trailer for her upcoming documentary Halftime, the star appeared to indicate that the snub hurt her more than she let on.

“It was hard. I just had a very low self-esteem,” she admitted in a voiceover that played over a clip of her crying in bed. “I had to really figure out who I was and believe in that, and not believe in anything else.”

Elsewhere in the footage, Jennifer is seen speaking with her dancers and crew as they prepare for the Super Bowl Halftime Show with Shakira in February 2020.

“Part of being a great performer is being aware,” the superstar commented, “I do this not for an award. I do this to connect with people and make them feel things because I want to feel something. My whole life, I’ve been battling to be heard, to be seen, to be taken seriously. I really feel like my life is just beginning.”

Halftime will debut on Netflix on 14 June.
