Photos From the Red Carpet – Billboard

It’s the first Monday in May, and that means the Met Gala has arrived!

After taking 2020 off due to the COVID-19 pandemic and delaying the event until September last year, we’re back on track with the fundraising gala for the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute in New York.

Regina King, Blake Lively, Ryan Reynolds and Lin-Manuel Miranda are the co-chairs of Monday night’s (May 2) event, celebrating “In America: An Anthology of Fashion,” the second part of a major two-part exhibition at the museum exploring the roots of American fashion. According to this year’s invitation, straight from Vogue editor Anna Wintour, this year’s event is a white-tie affair with an emphasis on “Gilded Glamour.”

Follow along with Billboard as we bring you all the night’s high-fashion moments from the red carpet, and if you want to look back at Met Galas past, we’ve been revisiting the best looks of some of music’s biggest stars and asking readers to vote for their favorite. Vote for Beyoncé’s best Met Gala look here, Lady Gaga’s best look here, Rihanna’s best look here, and Kanye West’s best Met Gala look here.

The Met Gala began in 1948 as the Costume Institute Gala and has grown in the decades since to become the glitzy A-list event it now is. For the first time in 2019, contributions to the Met’s Costume Institute surpassed $200 million thanks to the high-profile fundraiser.
