The 2022 Billboard Music Awards took over the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on Sunday (May 15), with Sean “Diddy” Combs hosting and performing. Mary J. Blige was honored with the Icon Award during the show, broadcast on NBC and Peacock. The 2022 BBMAs feature a huge list of performers that includes Silk Sonic, Rauw Alejandro, Jack Harlow, Bryson Tiller, Florence + the Machine, Elle King & Miranda Lambert, Megan Thee Stallion, Machine Gun Kelly, Latto, Burna Boy, Becky G, Ed Sheeran, Dan + Shay, Travis Scott and Morgan Wallen. Maxwell is taking the BBMAs as an opportunity to pay homage to Michael Jackson’s Thriller on its 40th anniversary with a performance.
The 2022 Billboard Music Awards were preceded by Billboard’s first-ever Billboard MusicCon. It hosted panels featuring Machine Gun Kelly, Anitta, Rauw Alejandro and Burna Boy, with Anitta performing as well. Ty Dolla $ign also performed at the inaugural Billboard MusicCon in Las Vegas leading up to the 2022 BBMAs.
Eleven of the performers are nominees this year, including Ed Sheeran (nine nods), Rauw Alejandro, Silk Sonic, and Morgan Wallen (four nods each), and Miranda Lambert (two nods). Mari Copeny, a 14-year-old environmental justice advocate, will receive the third annual Billboard Music Award Changemaker Award.
